"Disco Music" - the music of a generation (including my own) made popular by the Latino, gay and Psychedelic communities of the late 1960's and early 1970's. The disco sound was soaring with often reverberated vocals over a familiar and steady "four-on-the-floor" beat. While we all know the more commercial disco/dance hits from groups like the Bee Gees, KC And The Sunshine Band and The Tramps, this mix is dedicated to the artists who created something special. Most of these songs did very well on the charts and were far from that disco/pop so many people hated. These were the songs I was hearing in the clubs at the New Jersey Shore and inspired me to learn the art of mixing music as a club DJ, as well as entertaining those great couples hustling on the dance floor. A much younger friend at work recently asked me why disco died if it was so popular. My answer: "It was so big it actually sunk under its own weight. It became too commercial. Once your mom and dad and grandmother are trying to learn all the new dance moves with you the game is over".
Featured in this mix:
"Confessions", the dramatic choir of dance by D.C. Larue, the first white male ever to grab a #1 spot on Billboards R&B/Soul Chart. Then there's "That's The Feeling" and "Come Into My Heart" which were both produced by the Russian born Boris Midney - the principal architect of the Eurodisco sound. We have the French disco drummer and composer Cerrone who gave us Give Me Love and the sex laden Love In C Minor. Next it's Madleen Kane, the gorgeous Swedish model who had five top 10 dance hits between 1977 and 1980, including Rough Diamond. Then there's the one and only Giorgio Moroder, the godfather of Electronica and producer of many Donna Summer albums. Moroder composed and produced his hit From Here To Eternity and Donna Summer's I Feel Love in 1977 entirely with the use of Synthesizers and drum machines. Think about it this way. When these songs were released Rock had bands like Boston fresh on the charts with good musicians and here comes two songs with no musicians straight up the billboard charts. I think a few in the industry must have been shaking their heads at that one. And last, The Munich Machine (Giorgio Moroder) with the fun-filled 15 plus minute Hustle Hit Get On The Funk Train... one of my all time favorites and one that pretty much sums up the wonderful music of the era.

How can you do a disco mix and NOT include Donna Summer? That's like doing a British invasion mix minus the Beatles. Great job.
